The Crime Prevention Website

Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a well-researched theory which shows us that with careful design and the effective use of the built environment we can keep crime under control, reduce the fears associated with crime, improve quality of life and in combination these outcomes can deliver a sustainable built environment.

The International CPTED Association (ICA) is an association of some of the most experienced researchers and practitioners around the world. The association supports local organizations, practitioners and communities that utilise CPTED principals to create safer communities and environments.

Its membership is very wide and truly international attracting criminologists, police officers, security consultants, architects, designers and others.

Their website includes a Forum where members can post questions, comments and thoughts for review and comment from the other members. Non ICA members can view the posts but can’t add comments or start discussion threads.

Importantly, the ICA offers an internationally recognised Certification Program at advanced and practitioner level, which has been developed by its committee of professionals and academics.

Each year the ICA holds a two-day conference, which attracts leading experts in the field and a worldwide audience.  The 2015 International Conference of the ICA will be October 18-20, 2015 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mark your diary and follow this link for more detail.

The ICA has the support and admiration of The Crime Prevention Website and if you have an interest or an active responsibility for the built environment and want to see crime under control we would urge you to make contact with them and join.
