The Crime Prevention Website

Some of you may recall my news item from 4th August 2015 about a dubious crime prevention magazine apparently published by the National Crime Prevention Association.  Here’s the link to my blog post and you’ll see that a whole lot of people have left comments; one of which is just two months old.

Well, it seems that this type of fraud is still going on in spite of people reporting the matter to Action Fraud.

The reason I raise this matter again is that I quite often have people writing to me thinking it’s me and my website that is behind this ‘magazine’.  I can assure you I’m not!

The latest apparent scam is coming from Regional Crime Prevention Magazine.  They had cold called/messaged a plumber and asked him if he would like to place an advert in their magazine.  If they get a yes they design it and send the design to you for approval and then require payment.  The magazine never appears.  The phone number on the bottom of their messages is 0333 772 0931 (a non geographical unknown number) and the website - www rcpcrime com - which is not secure (not https) comes back as an error as the domain name is not associated with an actual website. Oh, and they want a BACS payment.

Nobody I know of has ever seen this magazine, so it does seem that this is yet another scam.

A simple search on the words ‘crime prevention magazine’ will come up with plenty of hits warning people not to deal with them, whoever ‘them’ are.

My simple message to businesses is DO NOT DEAL WITH COLD CALLERS OR RESPOND TO COLD MESSAGING.  Report to ACTION FRAUD

Thanks to 'T', the plumber for bringing this latest scam to my attention
