This website encourages people to source products from companies who have gained the relevant standards for their products or services.  The website also encourages ongoing assessment of a product or service (certification) by an authorised third party if this is available.


Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) 

LPS → Loss Prevention Standard

Standards that are preceded by the Letters ‘LPS’ are developed and published by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB).  The LPCB is part of BRE Global.  BRE Global is an independent, third party, approvals organisation, offering testing and certification of products, services and systems to an international market.  They also offer research and consultancy services.  The LPCB also tests to a number of the BS and European Standards and Publically Available Specifications.


British Standards Institute (BSI)     

BS → British Standard

DD → Draft for Development

BS EN → European Standard

PAS → Publically Available Specification

Standards that are preceded by the above letters are developed and or available from the British Standards Institute (BSI).  The BSI was the first national standards body in the world.  Apart from developing and selling standards, the organisation also tests and certifies products, offers Œ marking, provides training and certification to companies for all the major management system standards.

Exova Warrington apt CERTISECURE is an independent third party test house and certification body.  Its technical schedules for enhanced security testing of doors, windows, shutters, grilles etc are designated.

International Organisation for Standardization

Standards preceded by the letters ‘ISO’ are published by ISO (International Organization for Standardization).  ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 163 countries, one member per country, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that coordinates the system.


European Committee for Standardization (CEN)

BS EN → European Standard

Standards preceded by the letters ‘BS EN’ are European Standards that have been adopted by the UK.  The standards are published by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). CEN is a major provider of European Standards and technical specifications. It is the only recognized European organization according to Directive 98/34/EC for the planning, drafting and adoption of European Standards in all areas of economic activity with the exception of electro-technology ( CENELEC ) and telecommunication ( ETSI ).

Amongst  many  other activities The Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, known as ‘Thatcham’, tests vehicle security systems.  Thatcham Quality Accreditation (TQA®) is a robust verification programme for the assessment and recognition of automotive products, equipment and services. TQA® concentrates on building and verifying quality in the manufacture, design and performance of a product and/or service.  Testing is supported by rigorous examination of quality system and manufacturing process controls.  All of this is monitored and periodically reviewed throughout the duration of the accreditation to ensure that the levels of quality, service and performance are retained.
