The Crime Prevention Website

Currently, The Crime Prevention Website.com is getting a lot of visits to the ‘Holiday Checklist for your Security’ page.  I’m very pleased about that because it means more people are coming to my website (which always helps with the Google juice) and it’s reassuring to know that those of you who are making the effort to secure your home before you go stand a lot less chance of getting burgled while you’re away – it’s a fact.

Ideally, people should be thinking about home security a few weeks before they travel so you have time to find those hidden away plug-in timers and maybe cancel milk and newspaper deliveries, but even if you have left things to the last minute at least I can guide you through the essentials, so you don’t forget something pretty obvious.

And to make your journey trouble free you might also want to read through this website’s advice about Safer Travel Abroad and the other ‘Safer’ series of articles, some of which have been written in conjunction with Christine Morrison of CMA Training (a former police sergeant).

A recent email from Stephanie proves beyond doubt that being forewarned is being forearmed.

Stephanie had arrived at the airport in Sri Lanka when she was approached by a man who said he was her taxi driver to the hotel. She remembered what she’d read on this website and asked him if he knew what her name was and to which hotel he was taking her. He couldn’t answer either question and so sensibly she didn’t follow him to the car. In fact, it was at this point that she spotted another driver with a card displaying her name. She asked him to tell her the name of the hotel, which he did correctly and he also showed her the booking form with her details on it.

She’d already paid the transfer fee in advance and so had she got in the wrong taxi (possibly uninsured) she could have ended up paying twice!  Thanks to Stephanie for letting me know about your experience by the way.

There are all sorts of things you should know about before you travel and so do please check the links below. I think this is especially important if you’re young and have limited travel experience.
