The Crime Prevention Website

I’m off up the road in about an hour to give a talk to the good people of the Ickenham Neighbourhood Watch Group (Borough of Hillingdon in West London). I’m really looking forward to it.

This time I’ll be talking about the history of crime prevention in the police, my Home Security Survey (and the findings from it) and I’ll be posing the reasons why crime has fallen so much since the mid 1990s. Hopefully I’ll get some challenging questions to get stuck into.

Of course, this is against the background of today’s announcement by the ONS that the police in England and Wales recorded 9% more crime last year, with violence and knife crime in particular increasing even more, by 19% and 14% respectively.

I’ll read the latest ONS bulletin properly next week and report back here, but I suspect one of the reasons given for the increases will be better recording practices by police and a greater willingness to report certain categories, such as rape and sexual assault.

In the meantime here’s the link to the report: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/bulletins/crimeinenglandandwales/yearendingdec2016#main-points
