Hi everyone, Ben here, developer of The Crime Prevention Website.
It has been quite some time since our last update, but I wanted to check in this May to share the current state of the project and our plans moving forward.
We first started work on this site back in 2011. In the intervening 15(!) years, the digital landscape - and the world at large - has changed significantly. This site originally launched long before the ubiquity of smartphones, apps, AI, EVs, emojis, and the modern mobile web.
Life has kept us busy in the meantime. Calvin has been enjoying a well-earned retirement in Cornwall, while I have been balancing raising a young family with a variety of other development projects. Unfortunately, this meant that updates here had to take a backseat for a while.
We have noticed a decline in traffic over the last few years. I suspect this is largely due to the rise of AI-generated answers, which often provide quick snippets of information without the user ever needing to click through to the original source - sources that, in many cases, provided the foundation for that data in the first place - without permission.
Despite these shifts, I believe there is still immense value in the trove of meticulous advice and expert information Calvin poured into this resource. My goal is to ensure this information remains accessible and relevant to those who need it.
To that end, I am committed to keeping the site running and am currently working on a series of upgrades, including new features and a much-needed, mobile-friendly layout. I have just completed a primary round of fixes to improve site stability, and I look forward to sharing more updates in the coming months.
Our mission remains the same: getting high-quality crime prevention advice to the people who need it most. Thank you for sticking with us!
