If you need to define 'crime prevention' to someone here's my own definition of the term, which I’ve cobbled together from about a dozen variants on the internet

'The anticipation, recognition and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation and completion of some action to remove or reduce the risk and thereby its consequences'

Some of you in the police will probably recognise most of this definition to which I’ve added a few personal touches!
