Most thefts from cars and vans can be prevented, because the majority of reported incidents relate to items being left in view inside the car. Lose change, handbags, mobiles, laptops and sunglasses are just some of the items commonly stolen.
These thefts are termed as ‘unnecessary crimes’, because they are crimes that have been generated by the victim. We know the thief is ultimately to blame for the theft and the damage caused to get at the item on view, but knowing that thieves are about we must take some responsibility for our actions.
