The Crime Prevention Website

It’s really pleasing to see that almost 3,000 people have now completed our Home Security Survey and have received their FREE risk assessment report and score.

The average score across all property types (there are 8 to choose from) stands at 60.3 (out of 100). That’s an OK score if you live in an area with historically very low crime figures, but if you do score around this mark your tailor-made report will be advising you to do a little bit more and who wants to be just average anyway!

Most households need to be scoring in the high 60s and above before you can claim that your home is ready to take most of what the thieves can throw at you.  My house currently scores 72 and I’m pretty happy with that.  Yes, I could still experience a burglary or theft from the garden, but at least I know that I’ve made those crimes really difficult to commit and that I won’t be kicking myself, thinking I could have done more.

Worryingly, the evidence I have gleaned from the anonymous survey data I collect strongly suggests that people overestimate the strength of their home security by about 20% and so I would urge my supporters, especially the police and neighbourhood watch co-ordinators, to encourage more people to complete the survey.  There is no other survey anything like ours on the internet (it took me two solid months of hard graft to create it) and so I can confidently claim that it’s the best!! (He says, smiling)

So, with the weather behaving itself quite well at the moment and with the DIY stores full to the gunnels with locks, lights and other security gizmos there’s no time like now to complete the survey and get the tools out – you absolutely know it makes sense!
