The Crime Prevention Website

I see Worcester police are appealing for witnesses to a burglary in Worcester where a large TV was stolen.

The burglary took place between 10pm on 15th July and 8am on 16th July, whereby it is believed that access was gained through an insecure door to the property on St Clements Drive.

If you saw any suspicious activity on St Clements Drive between the 15th and 16th July or perhaps have seen someone carrying a large flat-screen TV, or have been contacted by anyone trying to sell one, please get in touch.

Members of the public are advised to lock up properly before you go to bed and only leave windows open in the rooms where people are sleeping.

Anyone with information about the burglary on St Clements Drive in Worcester is asked to contact PC 681 Lisa Morgan via the non-emergency police number 101 or information can be passed on anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Please quote the reference number 124s 16/07/14.

TCPW Comment: Isn’t it about time that these very large, flat, curved, thin, HD, etc TV’s were rendered useless if stolen.  In other words, why can’t they be programmed not to operate if they are removed from their usual address?  Why don’t they have in-built security protection? Are modern TV’s PIN protected when switched on for the first time? I don’t know the answers to my questions, so I’ll try and find out!

I know you can purchase anti-theft wall plates (I have one of these) and other physical security restraints, but that’s the retro market.  What we really want is clever in-built stuff, so that the thieves won’t profit from their crimes.
