Help others not fall victim to a distraction burglary

I get really angry when I read about a distraction burglary, because more often than not it involves an elderly victim or someone who is vulnerable.  This type of crime takes many forms, but inevitably a stranger gets into the dwelling and steals something while the victim is busy getting that drink of water, finding some change or maybe listening to some guy in the back garden telling them how much it will cost to cut down the troublesome shrub while his mate is up in the bedroom stealing the jewellery.

There are obvious ways to prevent these crimes and from time to time I think it’s necessary for us to have a kindly chat with an elderly relative or the old chap living on his own across the street about this sort of crime, which very much targets the older person.
