The Crime Prevention Website

Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer (Links to this website), is pleased to announce he’s re-launching his Crime Prevention Fund after a successful first year.

Back in July 2013, Mr Dwyer put aside £100,000 and invited individuals and groups to apply for funding for projects that would promote community safety and crime prevention. As the financial year closed on 31 March, the fund had received 73 applications of which 31 were approved, with the Commissioner’s investment totaling £98,350.

Mr Dwyer said: “We had an array of projects submitted by a variety of organisations, from across the county. It was refreshing to see the community spirit being demonstrated, and by working together all of us can help in the fight against crime and to reduce re-offending.  Each of the applications had their own merit, and I had to make some difficult decisions when it came to approving or rejecting the bids.

“I ask applicants to obtain match funding and I was thrilled that I almost tripled my initial £100,000 investment. The total investment in all 31 projects was a staggering £279,019.

“I want to wish the projects that have received funding the best of luck, I look forward to seeing the difference you make in your community.”

Building on the success of last year’s fund, John Dwyer is putting another £100,000 aside enabling more people to get involved and help their community. Information about the Crime Prevention Fund is available on the Commissioner's website.

The Commissioner has spent time over the last couple of weeks, re-visiting some of the projects that were awarded funding in the latter part of 2013. The projects that he revisited were: Kingsway ABC Boxing Club (Widnes)iMacc Youth Centre (Macclesfield)Incredible Edibles (Ellesmere Port) and the Shannon Bradshaw Trust (Warrington).

TCPW Comment: Similar funding schemes are operated by other PCCs, so if you’re looking for some help with funding a project that will have a positive effects on crime reduction see if your local PCC can help.
