Police arrested a burglary suspect in Oswestry today – just seven minutes after receiving a 999 call from a local resident reporting their home broken into and their car stolen.

The resident made the emergency call at 5.38am saying they believed someone may still be in the house in Henley Drive.  They then reported their car missing.

Officers on patrol in the area were alerted and the car was quickly spotted and stopped in College Road.  The driver was arrested at 5.45am on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station.

The 38-year-old is also being questioned about other recent burglaries in the Oswestry area.

TCPW Comment:  Well done to the Oswestry Police!  And I bet they were as pleased as punch to get an arrest so quickly after the initial call.  It must have been very worrying for the poor victim, but they did the right thing and called 999, possibly from their bedroom (we don’t actually know).  But I wonder how the suspect got in?

Notice too that the car was taken; such a common occurrence these days since you need the keys to steal modern vehicles.  This is why you should go to bed with your car keys and not leave spare keys in the house.  If you have to then hide them extremely well or better still pop them into an insurance rated safe.

You know it makes sense!
