Cumbria Police today received a new Kawasaki ZZR 1400 motorcycle to promote their BikeSafe initiative.

The bike has been donated on loan from J&L Motorcycles of Carlisle - http://kawasaki.jandlmotorcycles.co.uk/ . This is one in a long list of bikes provided by J&L Motorcycles, who have been supporting the initiative for almost 10 years.

The ZZR has been professional livered by Cubby’s Signs Ltd of Kingstown and had lights fitted courtesy of Premiere Hazard and some motorcycling kit supplied by Group Lloyd.

Sergeant Jo House, the force’s BikeSafe Co-ordinator, said: “On behalf of the Constabulary we would like to thank J&L Motorcycles for their continued support. The bike will be used as part of our engagement with the community. The county is blessed with scenic routes on which motorcyclists from across the UK come to travel on, the reason we do BikeSafe is to educate and make sure that bikers feel safe on the roads.

“If you see the bike please speak to the officers using the bike. They will be more than happy to discuss the BikeSafe initiative and give safety advice for motorcyclists on the county’s roads.”

Laurence Brown, J&L Motorcycles Managing Director, wants to support the initiative having experienced the benefits for himself. He said: "We have supported the Bike Safe Initiative since its inception in Cumbria.  As a keen Motorcycle enthusiast this initiative is close to my heart, especially following recent events.

“There are always new lessons to be learned, and as an experienced rider and an ex-club level racer I was keen to see what the BikeSafe workshop had to offer me.  I attended the course in 2007 and I was impressed at how much I gained from this and I can honestly say I still put into practice what I was taught.

“Here at J&L Motorcycles we are continued proud supporters of this initiative and positively encourage riders of all levels and experience to attend.

“The Bike-safe Kawasaki ZZR 1400 is used as an icebreaker to encourage other road users to interact with the officers on-board, using the world’s fastest accelerating production motorcycle is the perfect way to encourage this as a major talking point."

BikeSafe is a national police initiative run by many of the forces across the UK. Cumbria Police have been running BikeSafe scheme for a number of years and over the next six months will be running six workshops across the county.

Places on each workshop are limited to twelve people, so riders are urged to book quickly to avoid missing out.  A full list of workshop dates can be found at www.bikesafe.co.uk. You can book using this website or by calling the booking centre on: 08444 151206.
