The Crime Prevention Website

I had a call this morning from a security consultant colleague of mine, which I thought might interest my readers.

The call was made by a female purportedly representing a charity involved with the care of children. She told my friend that he had sponsored them last year and would he like to do so again.  He had no recollection of sponsoring the organisation and said as much at which point the caller put the phone down on him.

Now it’s possible that the caller had made a mistake and had called the wrong number. It’s also possible that the caller phoned the correct number and was from the charity and was simply trying it on (and failed) and it’s also possible that the caller was not calling from a charity at all and was simply attempting a bit of fraud.

Whatever this was it was most certainly a ‘cold call’ and as most cold calls are about trying to sell you something or otherwise get your money they are bad calls that deserve none of your attention save to put the phone down.

Just saying
