The Crime Prevention Website

According to a report in the Herts Advertiser seventy-six homes in the St Albans district have been burgled since the beginning of October; an increase of 34 per cent compared to the 50 burglaries in the same period last year.

This quite alarming rise has met with a firm reaction by the police that led to six arrests last week with three being charged. [Excellent result!]

The report goes on to say that in most cases the burglars have gained access through unlocked side gates into the back gardens and from there they’ve got in through insecure side and rear doors and windows.

Detective Inspector Peter Frost from the St Albans Police Station makes the point that this rise in burglary continues and a lot of extra resources have to be directed to deal with the situation. He asks that the public also play their part by locking those side gates and properly securing their doors and windows.

St Albans residents might also like to know that police and volunteers will be on hand at St Albans market on Wednesdays and Saturdays right up to Christmas encouraging people to sign up to Neighbourhood Watch and the OWL crime notification scheme.

TCPW Comment. It’s the same old story of opportunities to commit burglary being too easy. Please do everything you can to avoid becoming a victim by following the advice given by Herts Police and on this website, because if you live in St Albans you just know it makes sense.
