The Crime Prevention Website

For those of us involved in ‘designing out crime’, planning and landscape architecture it will come as no surprise to hear that our former colleague, Neil Williamson, has launched a website to promote his new-found company; Neil Williamson Associates Ltd

After graduating with honours in Psychology & Physiology at Oxford Neil trained in Landscape Design at the University of Sheffield and went onto practice landscape architecture for over thirty years in the public sector for a number of local authorities. His work included implementation and project management, community liaison, landscape planning, development control, public inquiries and planning policy formulation.

Neil is also a member of the Chartered Management Institute and has extensive management experience, including environmental project delivery, business development, cross-disciplinary and partnership working, community planning, strategic planning and risk management.

With his background in psychology and physiology, Neil’s particular interests include how the design of the external environment can contribute to mental, physical and social wellbeing, and to crime prevention.

I first met Neil in 1999 when he helped launch the UK Designing Out Crime Association (DOCA). In 2003 I had the pleasure of working directly with him when he was invited to be the principle author of the much needed core principles to support the police Secured by Design project.

Neil is a Built Environment Expert with Design Council CABE and a member of the Islington Design Review Panel.  He also works in a voluntary capacity for the University of Southampton as a Research Ethics reviewer and external adviser in the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences.

Needless to say I am delighted to hear about Neil’s new venture and have enthusiastically linked to his new website from my Partners Page.  I recommend you pay his site a visit.
