The Crime Prevention Website

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses after linking a series of thirteen thefts that occurred between the 22nd and 27th September overnight in Bracknell, Berkshire. They all seem to have occurred overnight and the two thieves involved were wearing dark clothing.

As a consequence the local neighbourhood team have been putting out extra patrols and handing out crime prevention leaflets. Inevitably the police are asking people not to leave things on view in the vehicles.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the Thames Valley Police 24 hour enquiry line on 101 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

TCPW Comment:  It’s utterly amazing what people will leave on view in a vehicle. Here’s a selection of just some of the stuff that was stolen: Two sets of golf clubs; two Tiffany lampshades (I bought a Tiffany lampshade about twenty years ago and I’m sure it was about £80 then!); a camera; pairs of sunglasses; a lot of fishing equipment; a watch; an electric golf trolley; radios and cash. It sounds like the prizes running along the conveyor belt on the Generation Game doesn’t it!

There’s only one answer to the problem and that’s don’t do it! Don’t leave stuff on view in the car behind a little bit of toughened safety glass, which can be broken within seconds using a very small sharp tool.

Ask yourself this: Would you place valuable property in a glass box and leave it out on the front lawn overnight? – Okay, don’t answer that!

There’s also one other point of interest in this report. The thirteen incidents actually involve sixteen vehicles and one shed. A series of three and series of two vehicle crime incidents have been linked (according to the Home Office counting rules) and so are expressed as two vehicle crimes involving 3 and 2 vehicles respectively (and possibly five victims). This can be a little confusing and is worth remembering when you are reading about crime statistics.

Whatever the counting rules might be the police in Bracknell really need your help to solve these crimes, but they will be even more thankful if people stopped encouraging vehicle crime!
