The Crime Prevention Website

My wife and I were really sad to hear the news concerning the death of PC Phillips yesterday. It’s these tragic incidents that remind us about the dangers of policing and why they and their families deserve our heartfelt support and sympathy when something like this happens. It’s sobering to think that on our behalf our police always go towards trouble while most of the rest of us go the other way.

This morning there’s this appeal on the Merseyside Police website:

Merseyside Police can confirm that following a Home Office post mortem examination last night (Monday 5th October), PC David Phillips died from internal injuries sustained as a result of impact.

PC Phillips' death is being treated as murder and an investigation is being led by detectives from the force's Matrix Serious Organised Crime (MSOC) unit.

Detectives have released a photograph of the red Mitsubishi Challenger L200 pick-up truck that was driven at PC Phillips as he tried to stop it using a stop-stick device on Wallasey Link Road.

The vehicle had been stolen during a burglary in Woodchurch Road in Birkenhead and, following the collision with PC Phillips, it was found abandoned in Corbyn Street, Wallasey.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw the red Mitsubishi pick-up between 1.12am when the burglary occurred in Woodchurch Road and to when it was found abandoned in Corbyn Street at 2.55am to come forward.

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious or who has any other information that could help the police investigation should call Merseyside Police on 0800 230 0600 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

If you’re reading this and think you can help please do so.
