The messages in this article in Luton Today will be seen in countless online and hard copy newspapers as we hit the beginning of Freshers’ Week (or two) across the country.

First time away from home, making new friends, hitting the clubs and bars – what a better start to university life............................

Beds Police has issued some timely advice for new students at the start of Freshers’ Fortnight.

Officers will have a visible presence in the student hotspots of Bedford and Luton during the University of Bedfordshire’s Freshers’ Fayres and the multitude of night-time activities planned for new and returning academics.

Freshers’ Fortnight runs until October 9.

Additional patrols will be held to police the night-time economy in key nightspot areas for students and licensing officers will be working closely with pub and club venues and taxi companies to help protect people and ensure they get home safely.

Students are encouraged to approach officers for help and advice, and to follow @bedspolice, @uniofbeds and the hashtag #FreshBeds15 for daily tips and helpful messages.

TCPW Comment: What an exciting time for new students! I know both my boys thoroughly enjoyed their introduction to university life and I like to think (as all parents would) that they enjoyed the time within sensible limits!!

Whilst it’s not for me to preach codes of behaviour, there’s plenty of advice on this website that a young person can think about as they begin their independent life. Forewarned is Forearmed, so do please click on the ten links below
