The Crime Prevention Website

I’ve been going through the list of referrals to The Crime Prevention Website (TCPW) this last week in preparation for my next newsletter (should be out next week) and I came across a number of new referrals from the Tendring Community Safety Partnership in Essex. It took me a while to find the link on their site, but eventually found it on their Crime Reduction page under the title ‘Home Protection Information’ OK, it’s not my preferred reference, but what the heck, it’s a link and a link is a link! Interestingly I’m getting three of four referrals a day, which is quite a number (if you don’t know about these things).

Some of you may not know what a Community Safety Partnership is and so I thought I would copy and paste Tendring’s useful explanation:-

The Crime and Disorder Act came into force in July 1998 and required CDRPs (Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships), now known as Community Safety Partnerships (CSP's) to be set up in each District in England and Wales. The Act placed an obligation on local authorities and the police, (amongst others,) to work together to develop and implement a strategy to tackle crime and disorder in their area.

Under the Act and the subsequent Police Reform Act 2002, Tendring District Council, Essex Police, Essex County Council, the Police and Crime Commissioner's office, Essex Fire Authority, Essex Probation Service, North East Essex NHS and members of the voluntary sector have been designated 'Responsible Authorities' and are held accountable for this work.

So there we have it; now you know what they are and having been in crime prevention at their inception I can tell you that CDRPs were the beginning of great things for crime prevention!

The Tendring Community Safety Partnership has a Mission Statement to ‘reduce both the incidence and fear of crime and disorder and make Tendring a safer place to live, work and visit.'

As a result, all partners within the CSP are working hard to make Tendring an even safer place to live, work and visit.

Objectives for 2014/2015

The Tendring CSP has identified 4 key strategic themes to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the District and to improve community safety.

These are:

  • Tackling Anti Social Behaviour;
  • Reducing Crime and the Fear of Crime;
  • Reducing alcohol and drug misuse within the community;
  • Reducing re-offending is a statutory duty for all community safety partnerships and thus supports the overarching theme for Safer Essex.

Essex is one of the safest places to live in England with only four other police areas having lower crime rates. Tendring’s Community Safety Partnership is helping to keep it that way and we are very pleased that they’ve decided to link to TCPW to provide a little extra help for their residents.
