The Crime Prevention Website

On the news this morning I was sad to see that one of the police’s foremost supporters had died. Shaw Taylor MBE was known to many of us as the presenter of the pioneering show ‘Police 5’, literally a five minute broadcast giving details of crimes that the police needed help to solve.  It began in 1962 and was so successful that it ran for 30 years! I suppose it must have been the forerunner for Crimewatch.

I had the pleasure of meeting Shaw Taylor on a couple of occasions, particularly around the time that he was helping the police promote property marking.  He was a real gentleman.

Of course, Shaw was also an actor and presented other TV and Radio shows, other than Police 5, but with his catchphrase ‘keep ‘em peeled’ (which I shall continue to use in his memory) he will remain best known for the crime fighting show.
