The Crime Prevention Website

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been posting up fewer news stories recently and I’m late with my newsletter. I’m sorry about this, but I’ve been tied up with several security consultancy jobs that have come in recently. I guess it must be something to do with it being a new year with Spring almost upon us and may be some people are taking me literally as I urge them to make 2015 the year they secured their home.

It’s been really great getting back on the tools again (so to speak); trying to work out how people can best protect themselves from burglary. The jobs have certainly been varied. A four-bed semi in Belsize; a new housing development in Camden, a factory in Uxbridge and a lovely flat with views in Pimlico, all with very different and very specific security issues to consider.

In order to give the best advice I always look at the crime data in the immediate area of the job and I’ve done so many of these around London now that I have a feel as to which areas have more crime. I currently use the police.uk website, which allows you to select a specific area of interest. Obviously it only gives the crime type and the road it occurred in, but that’s good enough for a comparison. There’s about four years of data on there now so you can even look at long term trends, which is very useful.

Knowing what the crime risks are and how they compare to other areas means that you can adjust your advice to make it commensurate; a term I know my former crime prevention colleagues will know all about.

Doing this work also forces me refresh my knowledge and with that I have been able to add extra information to this website, so everyone’s a winner.

So, whilst I would be very happy to hear from people in London who would like to engage my services you can also get a great deal of advice for free by taking our Home Security Survey.  It’ll take you about 15 minutes to work through and you’ll be sent a free security report and risk assessment score. Then you can go to the links to find out extra information so that when you get to the DIY store or the locksmiths you’ll know what you should be buying.

Climatologically (there’s a word for a Tuesday), Spring is already here, so what are you waiting for? Give the survey a go and see what you need to do!
