The Crime Prevention Website

Thames Valley Police has joined forces with a local business in Slough to help prevent theft from motor vehicles across the borough, in particular catalytic converters.

On Friday 30 January, a crime prevention event will take place at Kwik Fit, Bath Road, Slough, which motorists are being encouraged to attend. Please note bookings will be made by prior appointment only.

Subject to booking, motorists can drop by on the day and have their catalytic converters assessed, and if appropriate, marked by staff at Kwik Fit. They can also have number plates secured with tamper-resistant kits free of charge.

Neighbourhood police officers and staff will be present at the event to provide general crime prevention advice.

Det Sgt Madoc-Jones said: “Although thefts from motor vehicles are currently down in Slough, it is still very much an on-going challenge for the local police area. This free event will hopefully provide local residents with an opportunity to help prevent them becoming a victim of vehicle crime.

“Catalytic converters are regularly stolen in Slough by criminals, particularly from Mercedes Sprinter vans, Seat Alhambra and Volkswagen Sharans. Therefore, I would encourage owners of these types of vehicles locally to make use of this free service.”

He added: “I end by sharing share some positive news with residents which is, we currently have two people on bail who we suspect to be involved in such criminality.

“We arrested a 28-year-old man from London on 12 November last year on suspicion of twenty-three offences, all involving the theft of catalytic converters in Slough.

“Earlier this month (17/1), we arrested a 23-year-old man from Waltham Forest on suspicion of nine offences. Again, all involve the theft of catalytic convertors.”

To book your appointment for Friday 30 January, call Lawrence Casey, Kwik Fit’s centre manager, on 01753 528414.

TCPW Comment:  This is a really worthwhile initiative. Please support yourself and Thames Valley Police by taking advantage of this free offer, especially if you have one of the ‘at risk’ vehicles or your vehicle has a high ground clearance.
