Police and Derbyshire County Council hope a new initiative using portable lighting will help reduce Kilburn’s anti-social behaviour problem by enabling community and youth events to continue safely during the winter.

PC Neil Hopwell and PCSO John Midgley from the Kilburn Safer Neighbourhood Team put forward the idea of additional lighting to the council following incidents of anti-social behaviour in the area.

Following this, the council purchased a number of portable lights for use across the community. The additional lighting will be used around youth clubs and multi-use games areas.

TCPW Comment: Lighting, if used appropriately, can be used in many ways to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and this example not only provides some additional safety for young people but also enables them to be active during the dark winter months – an excellent initiative!
