The Crime Prevention Website

This is what I like to read about!

From Bedfordshire Police

Eleven people have been charged, another twenty-two arrested and three more recalled to prison in the first weeks of Bedfordshire Police’s anti-Burglary campaign – Operation Alboirix.

Charges include Burglary, aggravated Taking Without [vehicle] Consent (TWOC), Attempted Burglary, Bail Offences, Theft, and Going Equipped.

The charges, arrests and prison recalls follows close monitoring of known and suspected burglars and intelligence about the methods used to commit offences.

Officers have also ensured that any bail, probation or release from prison conditions, including wearing electronic tags, is closely monitored and that infringements are followed up. This has led to a number of offenders charged, arrested or recalled to prison.

Chief Inspector Tania Coulson who is leading the operation, said: “We are using intelligence, number plate recognition and patrols to clamp down on burglary in the South of the county. We know that burglaries increase from September during the autumn and winter months and we have been focussing on specific areas with crime prevention advice and activities and including our partnership working.

“Our methods have already accounted for 36 individuals, some of them serious repeat offenders, being either taken off the streets or bailed with strict conditions that should prevent them being out and about committing more crimes.

“So far, as a result of the operation we have located several stolen cars and property.......However we are also keen to track down the people who handle stolen property. If you are offered any goods and the price seems to be too good to be true then it probably is, and being charged with handling stolen goods will attract a severe sentence.

“I’d like to commend my teams for their hard work this far but would like community support in undertaking their own home crime prevention measures and reporting suspicious activity in their street.

If anyone has any information about burglary or handling stolen property please call Bedfordshire Police in confidence on 101 on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

TCPW Comment: This is the second good news story about police actions I’ve posted this week and for good reason.

This story, yet again, demonstrates that our police service is doing exactly what the public expect of them – acting on our behalf and catching the offenders when crime has been committed.

Our responsibility, in what is essentially an ongoing partnership with the police, is to do all we can to avoid becoming victims in the first place.  This is why Chief Inspector Coulson asks us to make sure our homes are properly secure, because the fewer ‘unnecessary’ crimes there are the more time our police can devote to catching the repeat offenders.

There’s no getting away from it - helping ourselves helps the police help us – simples!
